By participating in the Focus! Climate Change Video and Media Arts Competition you hereby agree to be bound by the terms and conditions, rules and regulations of the contest as set out on the Kimberley Foundation website.

The Team

• Students may work individually or in teams of up to 5 members.
• Team members do not have to be in the same grade but they all do have to be registered at a school in Canada (public, private, or independent).
• Team members do not have to be from the same school / institution.
• Team members cannot include professionals, teachers, or parents although these individuals are allowed to help in non-creative roles (i.e. give technical advice, provide equipment, etc.).

Video Content

• The videos submitted for consideration of the Kimberley Foundation Climate Change Video and Media Arts Competition prize must be original material: conceived, shot, directed, edited and produced solely by the applicants.
• Videos may take the form of documentary or fictional narrative, be silent or include sound (including environmental sound, voice-over narration and music), in colour or black-and-white.  Sound may accompany the video (any professionally produced music, or any copy-righted material generated by third parties must comply with our copyright regulations). For Music Video entries, the music and lyrics must be original creations by the student submitters. Students entering non-music videos may use music creation tools such as GarageBand which allow for the creation of music loops using their sounds so long as this is allowed by the music software tool (Apple GarageBand has confirmed to us this is allowed, but there may be other software with similar free and unrestricted use). If you do use GarageBand still cite it appropriately in citations and credits.
• The video may be shot on any format camera (from GoPros to iPhones, and larger DSLR or other HD cameras), so long as the submission is digitally formatted in an MP4 or MOV format. If you shoot a film on an older analog-format camera (8mm or super8, for example), you must convert your film to digital format before submitting it.
• The video must be a minimum of 1 minute and may not exceed the maximum length: 5 minutes. Credits at the end or beginning of your video will not count in the official time.
• You must include a title sequence and credits.
• The content of the video must be appropriate for a viewing audience of Grade 7 and may not include profane language, violence, or other inappropriate content.

Submission Deadlines and Release:

• The video must be submitted to the Kimberley Foundation through its website.
• By entering the contest, you are giving the Kimberley Foundation non-exclusive rights to retain an archive copy of your production for the purposes of exhibition, promotion, and education. All entries may be used for educational, reporting or promotional purposes by the Kimberley Foundation.
• You are solely responsible for securing any releases for content, actors or music of which you have not been the creator.
• All research and content in the video must be cited, giving credit to the original source. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. The names of the creative team itself and of any performers or individuals who appear in your film as authorities should appear at the end of the film in the form of credits. Credits to all non-original work (image, music, etc, must also be contained in the credits at the end of your movie)

Copyright

• The use of any material, music or actor, without the express written permission of the copyright holder is illegal, strictly prohibited, and will result in disqualification.
• Each member of the video production team MUST sign and submit with the video entry an ownership declaration form signed by a parent or guardian.

Other Rules

• There is no entry fee.
• Multiple video entries are allowed. Each contest submission requires the submission of ownership declarations and releases which are tied uniquely to each individual production.
• Only entries submitted through the Kimberley Foundation Focus! Video and Media Arts Competition are accepted.
• Focus ! Video and Media Arts Competition entries may be submitted through our website.
• The decision of the Kimberley Foundation Board of Directors is final.
• The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize as listed as part of the competition. No additional compensation will be made in any form whatsoever.
