FINAL QUESTION
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the design and impact of our professional development (PD) program, we are interested in understanding how it affects various aspects of your experience as an educator. In this section, we aim to explore how participating in the program influences your feelings and emotions, particularly regarding eco-anxiety. Understanding these emotional responses is crucial as they may impact your teaching practices and overall well-being. We can better tailor future PD programs to support you more effectively by gaining insights into this area. Your responses will help us learn and improve, ensuring we address all facets of your professional and emotional needs.
In the past two weeks, have you been bothered by any of the following problems when thinking about climate change and other global environmental conditions?
*
Check all that apply. We recognize that this is a sensitive question and there is an option to "prefer not to answer". Notwithstanding, it is important we recognize that youth are not the only ones currently experiencing eco-anxiety and in need of building eco-resilience. We believe that the more data we can bring to light about the challenges being faced by front-line workers, the more that attention can be paid to the health and well-being of them.
Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge
Not being able to stop or control worrying
Feeling afraid
Unable to stop thinking about future climate change and other global environmental problems
Difficulty sleeping (due to thinking about climate change)
Difficulty enjoying social situations with family and friends (due to thinking about climate change)
Difficulty working (due to thinking about climate change)
Feeling anxious about the impact of your personal behaviors on the earth
Feeling anxious about your personal responsibility to help address climate change problems
Feeling anxious that you are alone in your desire and efforts to educate youth about climate change
Feeling anxious because others expect you to educate the next generation about climate change and you don't feel sufficiently well equipped
I have not experienced any of the above problems
I prefer not to answer
To end the survey we ask you to take a moment, close your eyes, and think about your favorite place to vacation in nature. What does it feel like? What sounds do you hear? How does it make you feel? When you are finished absorbing yourself in this setting, write 2-3 words that capture that place, that moment.
Research is showing that one of the best ways we can diminish our stress levels is to think about or connect with nature. We hope this can be a meditative practice you can take with you from the Collaborative.
We are sincerely grateful to you for taking the time to provide us with feedback so we can continue to improve programming for Canadian teachers and their classrooms. If you have any further thoughts that were not covered by the questions above, please write to Sue, Tom or Travis with your comments.
